The Charleston is one of the swing era dances that you’ll see at TSDS dances.
On June 1, we’re featuring a short solo Charleston lesson during the dance!

 

 

Triangle Swing Dance Society compiles everyone’s events into one page.  The calendar includes swing-era dance events, West Coast Swing, and blues dancing.

Please arrive by 6:45 PM to get through the door and be ready for the 7-8 PM beginner lesson.
TSDS dances’ live music goes from 8-11 PM.
The beginner lesson is free with paid admission.
You don’t need to come with a dance partner!

Sundays > Lesson & dance by Carolina Dance Club at the Raleigh Elk’s Lodge
Tuesdays > Jazz & Swing night at Premier Dance Studio in Cary–find info on DanceFrankie
Thursdays > Lindy Lab hosts a dance and usually a lesson at Triangle Dance Studio in Durham
Fridays > West Coast Swing Dance Party at Loafers (moved to Creekside Dr in Oct 2012), a private club membership is required (a small annual fee)
Fridays > Dance Blues Friday lesson and dance at Triangle Dance Studio in Durham
Saturdays (1st & 3rd) > TSDS lesson and live music in Durham or Chapel Hill
Saturdays (2nd & 4th) > PSDS lesson and live music in Winston-Salem or Greensboro

 

3. Other Special Events

This calendar tends to not keep up with the numerous local club gigs. Be sure to follow your favorite bands via their websites and social media.

May 24 > Chapel Hill’s free event Fridays on Franklin is featuring live New Orleans style music and a lesson by Richard Badu.

May 31 > Cary’s free Seven O’clock Rock street dance series will feature live swing music. I’m told there will be a lesson at 6:30.

Oct 24 > RDU Rent Party will host Perseverance Jazz Band from Philadelphia.
Oct 31 to Nov 3 > Eastern Balboa Championships (Raleigh) is an international Balboa event that includes workshops, dances, and competitions. This event attracts much of the top worldwide Balboa talent. The workshop levels range from beginner to “Ninja-Master”. 
If you’ve never done Balboa before, you don’t need prior experience to attend the beginner-level workshops, though you could get a head start before the event with mostly-monthly Bal Cram Sessions.
